What is HP Printer Paper?
HP Printer Paper is a family of HP-branded copy and printer papers, and the everyday version is HP Copy&Print20: 20 lb (75 gsm), 92 bright, 8.5 x 11 in, 500 sheets per ream. Its item number is 200060.
It’s general-purpose paper for inkjet and laser printers and copiers. Sylvamo says Copy&Print20 is optimized for all inkjet and laser printers and copiers, uses ColorLok technology, is 100% acid-free and is FSC-certified.
Who makes HP printer paper, and where?
Sylvamo Corporation makes HP printer paper under a license from HP Inc., and Sylvamo says the HP papers it sells in North America are manufactured in the USA. HP, the printer company, doesn’t run paper mills.
Sylvamo’s Form 10-K annual reports (for 2021 and 2023) say the company has a license from HP Inc. “for the right to produce and sell HP branded copy paper in almost all geographies globally”, and list losing that license as a business risk. Sylvamo was spun off from International Paper in 2021, which is why some older listings name International Paper as the maker.
The country of origin comes from Sylvamo’s own shop pages for Copy&Print20 and Premium32 (“manufactured in the USA”) and the MADE IN USA line on the HP Premium24 sell sheet. Sylvamo doesn’t name the specific mill.

The everyday HP papers are 20 lb (75 gsm) and 92 bright; the Premium papers step up to 24 lb (90 gsm) or 32 lb (120 gsm) and 100 bright. Heavier paper is thicker and stiffer and shows less through from the other side.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HP Copy&Print20 | 20 lb | 75 | 92 | 200060 | Everyday copying and printing |

Specs for Copy&Print20 and Premium24 are from Sylvamo; the Office20 item number is from Quill, and Sylvamo’s shop now marks Office20 as discontinued; Premium32’s weight in gsm and item number are from Staples. Some resellers list Premium24 at 98 bright instead of 100. Sylvamo’s sheet says 100, so we use that.
What is ColorLok technology?
ColorLok is a paper technology owned by HP, developed with International Paper, that HP says gives bolder blacks, richer colors and faster drying with inkjet ink.
HP’s claims for ColorLok:
- Faster drying: at launch, HP said ColorLok paper dries up to three times faster than ordinary paper.
- Bolder blacks and richer colors: an HP engineer has explained that ordinary paper usually trades dry time against black density, and that ColorLok improves both.
- Other benefits HP lists: fewer paper jams and longer printer life with laser printers, and better print quality on recycled paper.
Other paper makers can meet the ColorLok standard their own way or license HP’s technology. ColorLok isn’t exclusive to HP-branded paper. These are HP’s figures; we haven’t measured drying time.
What does “92 bright” mean?
The brightness number on a ream rates how much light the paper reflects; a higher number looks brighter. HP’s everyday 20 lb papers are 92 bright, and the Premium lines are 100 bright.
Sylvamo also lists a separate whiteness figure (155 for Copy&Print20, 163 for Premium24), which isn’t capped at 100. Amazon Basics copy paper, for comparison, is also sold as 92 bright.
Is HP printer paper acid-free?
Yes. Sylvamo describes HP Copy&Print20 as 100% acid-free, and HP Premium24 is also sold as acid-free. Acid-free paper resists yellowing over time better than acidic paper. Sylvamo also says the paper is FSC-certified.
How does HP Printer Paper compare to Amazon Basics copy paper?
On published specs the two everyday papers are nearly identical: both are 20 lb, 92 bright, 8.5 x 11 in, 500-sheet acid-free reams. The differences are in what each brand states.

Which HP paper should you choose?
For everyday home and office printing, HP Copy&Print20 (20 lb, 92 bright) is the standard choice; step up to Premium24 or Premium32 when show-through or a better feel matters.
- HP Copy&Print20 or Office20 (20 lb, 75 gsm): school work, drafts, forms and everyday printing.
- HP Premium24 (24 lb, 90 gsm): double-sided documents and reports where you want less show-through.
- HP Premium32 (32 lb, 120 gsm): résumés, presentations and handouts that should feel substantial.
