- Made in (Rhodia Goalbook, A5 hardcover, dot grid, 240 pages (ivory or white paper)): Not stated. Cult Pens says the paper is made in Étival-Clairefontaine, France. Rhodia's 2024 French press kit says the brand has always produced in France, at Illzach near Mulhouse, and that its notebooks are assembled by hand, but neither Rhodia's product page nor any retailer we could read names the Goalbook's country. Galaxus has listed Morocco for a checked A5 Goalbook (117764C), a different ruling; its page now blocks automated reading, so check the label on your copy. ## What is the Rhodia Goalbook?

**The Goalbook is Rhodia's A5 hardcover journal built for bullet journaling: numbered dot grid pages with contents and calendar pages already printed.** It uses the same 90 g/m² Clairefontaine paper as the [Rhodia Webnotebook A5](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/rhodia-webnotebook-a5/).

Reviews of it date back to 2018. Rhodia's French site lists the hardcover in 16 cover colors, and Rhodia's UK supplier, ExaClair Limited, added 11 new colors across the Goalbook and softcover ranges. In Europe it is sold as part of the Rhodiarama line.

## What makes it different from a plain dot grid notebook?

**The Goalbook prints the setup pages that bullet journalers usually draw by hand.** Contents pages let you index entries by page number, and the undated year and month pages work from any start date.

Because the calendars are undated, you can start in any month and carry the book across a year boundary. The pen loop keeps a pen with the book.

## How do you set up a Goalbook for bullet journaling?

**Start with the printed pages: log each collection in the contents pages, fill in the annual calendar, then use the monthly pages as your future log.** The numbered dot grid pages that follow hold your monthly, weekly and daily spreads.

Because the year and month pages are undated, write the year in yourself. Of the 224 numbered pages, a weekly spread for every week of a year takes 104, leaving 120 for monthly logs and collections.

## Hardcover or softcover?

**This guide covers the hardcover; Rhodia also sells a softcover Goalbook with the same A5 dot grid paper.** The softcover is lighter and flexes in a bag, while the hardcover gives a firmer surface for writing on your lap.

Exaclair's 2024 catalog gives the softcover two ribbons and the hardcover three ribbons plus the pen loop, at US$29.95 and US$33.50 list.

## Is the paper good for fountain pens?

**Clairefontaine's 90 g/m² paper is known for being smooth and resisting bleed, and several reviewers call it fountain-pen friendly.**

Not every reviewer agrees: The Pen Addict says it can feather with wet inks or flex nibs, and saw more ghosting on cream paper than on white. The white-paper editions also suit color-coding better than ivory.

## How does it compare to other bullet journals?

**The Goalbook has the most pages of the three popular A5 bullet journals here; the other two have heavier paper.**

| | Rhodia Goalbook | [Leuchtturm1917 Bullet Journal Edition 2](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/leuchtturm1917-bullet-journal-edition-2/) | [Scribbles That Matter Pro](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/scribbles-that-matter-pro-a5-dotted-journal/) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pages | 240 | 206 | About 150 |
| Paper | 90 g/m² | 120 g/m² | 160 gsm |
| Dot grid | 5 mm | 5 mm | 5 mm |
| Price band | $$$ | $$$ | $$$ |

Heavier paper shows less through the page; more pages last longer. If you don't need the planning pages, the Webnotebook is a plainer book on the same paper.

## Which color and paper should you choose?

**The pages are the same in every cover color, so the real choice is ivory or white paper.** Ivory is the classic Rhodia look; white shows colored inks and highlighters closer to their true color.

Rhodia's French site lists 16 cover colors, from Black and Silver to Turquoise, Sapphire and Chocolate. Exaclair's 2024 US catalog offers white paper only in Silver, Black and Orange; The Pen Addict says white paper arrived in 2020.

## Where is the Rhodia Goalbook made?

**No product page we found states where the Goalbook is assembled; Cult Pens says its paper is made in Étival-Clairefontaine, France.** Rhodia's 2024 French press kit says the brand has always produced in France, at Illzach near Mulhouse, but Galaxus has listed Morocco for a checked Goalbook, so check the label on your copy.
