What is Altenew Peony Bouquet?
It’s a 6 × 8 in clear layering stamp set from Altenew that builds peonies, leaves and berries by stamping several stamps one over another. Altenew, a US papercraft brand, is best known for this kind of multi-layer floral stamp.
Altenew says the design was inspired by a bouquet of peonies painted by an artist friend from Japan, and calls the set one of its bestsellers; its page showed 103 reviews on October 20, 2026, the most of any Altenew layering set we checked. A designer’s blog places it in the January 2016 release, so it has been in the line for years.
What’s in the set?
Altenew lists 24 stamps: two 4-layer peonies, two 3-layer leaves, 2-layer berries and a branch of small leaves, plus outline images.

How do layering stamps work?
Each layer is a separate stamp that prints one part of the image, and you stamp them in order, usually from the lightest ink to the darkest. The first layer is a solid silhouette; later layers add petals, shading and fine detail.
Lining up each layer by eye takes practice. A stamp positioner such as the MISTI or the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform holds the card still and lets you place each layer, then re-stamp it if it prints patchy.
Which inks work best?
Dye inks in a light-to-dark family give the smoothest layered look, because each layer shows through the next. Pick three or four shades of one color for the peony and two or three greens for the leaves.
For the outline images, stamp in a crisp black such as Memento Tuxedo Black and color with markers, or use VersaFine Onyx Black for fine lines and heat embossing.
How does it compare to other Altenew layering sets?
Peony Bouquet has the most reviews of the Altenew layering sets we checked; Vintage Roses is older and much larger.
| Set | Size | Stamps | Reviews on Altenew |
|---|---|---|---|
| Peony Bouquet | 6 × 8 in | 24 | 103 |
| Vintage Roses | 6 × 8 in | 55 | 62 |
Among the Build-A-Flower sets we checked, Triumph Tulip had the most reviews, at 29. Review counts are as shown on October 20, 2026.
Altenew calls Vintage Roses one of its first floral layering sets. The newer Build-A-Flower series sells one large layered flower per set, usually bundled with its dies.
Do you need the matching dies?
No, but they save cutting by hand. The Peony Bouquet Die Set has 7 dies that cut around the stamped images, so you can pop flowers up on foam. You need a die-cutting machine such as the Sizzix Big Shot to use them.
Where is it made, and what does it cost?
Altenew says the 24 stamps are made in the USA from high-quality photopolymer. It doesn’t say where the dies are made.
On October 20, 2026 Altenew listed the stamp set at US$23.99, the die set at US$21.00 and the bundle at US$44.99; the stamp set falls in our $$$ band ($20–75). Altenew was founded in April 2014 and is based in Syracuse, New York.
Frequently asked questions
How many stamps are in Altenew Peony Bouquet?
Altenew lists 24 stamps on a 6 × 8 in sheet. They build two 4-layer peonies, two 3-layer leaves, 2-layer berries and a branch of small leaves, plus outline images.
What are layering stamps?
Layering stamps split one image into several stamps, each printing part of it. You stamp them one over another, usually from the lightest ink to the darkest, to build shading.
Do you need a stamp positioner for layering stamps?
It isn't required, but a positioning tool such as a MISTI or the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform makes lining up each layer much easier, and lets you re-stamp a layer that prints patchy.
Does Peony Bouquet come with dies?
The stamps and dies are separate products. Altenew sells a Peony Bouquet Die Set with 7 dies, and a stamp-and-die bundle.
Can you use the Peony Bouquet outlines without layering?
Yes. Altenew says the outline images can be used with the layers or alone, for example to stamp in black and color with markers.
When did Altenew release Peony Bouquet?
A designer's blog places it in Altenew's January 2016 release. Altenew itself doesn't give a date on the product page we found.
Where is Altenew based?
In Syracuse, New York: Altenew gives an address on Milton Avenue there and says it ships from Syracuse. Its founders, Tasnim and Jen (Tasnim Ahmed and Jennifer Rzasa), started it in April 2014.
