What is LAMY T52?
LAMY T52 is LAMY’s large bottle of fountain pen ink: 50 ml in a glass bottle set into a plastic base with a built-in roll of blotting paper. LAMY’s German shop describes it as an “ink glass with an ink-residue basin, plastic base with blotting-paper roll”.
It sits in the middle of LAMY’s bottled range. LAMY’s German ink guide lists the simpler 30 ml T51, the 50 ml T52 and the brighter T53 crystal inks, alongside T10 cartridges.

LAMY’s US page prints the height as 610 mm, an obvious slip for the German page’s 61 mm. Our cover draws the bottle at the German figures; the base height and cap are by eye.
What are the blotting roll and the basin for?
The roll gives you blotting paper for wiping the nib after filling, and the basin collects the last few milliliters so a nib can still reach them. LAMY says the recess, which it calls the ink-residue basin, lets you take up “the last rest of the ink cleanly”.
In practice, tilt the bottle toward you only when the basin is all that’s left. The blotting strip tears off through a slot in the front of the base.
Which colors does LAMY T52 come in?
LAMY’s German shop lists nine: black, blue, blue-black, dark lilac, green, petrol, red, sepia and turquoise. All cost the same €11.00 (about US$12) there.
Dark lilac and petrol began as special-edition colors. LAMY says the current versions aren’t exact copies, because some original ingredients can no longer be bought.
| Color | Notes |
|---|---|
| Blue | Royal blue; erasable with an ink eraser (LAMY) |
| Blue-black, black | Everyday dark colors |
| Turquoise, green, red | Brighter colors, also among LAMY’s seven T10 cartridge colors |
| Sepia, dark lilac, petrol | Not among the T10 cartridge colors LAMY’s ink guide names |
Is LAMY blue really erasable?
Yes. LAMY calls its blue “löschbar”, erasable, and its US shop labels the blue bottle effaceable. That means an ink-eraser pen can lift it off the page, and LAMY’s site notes that erasable blue suits school use.
The other side of that is permanence. Goulet lists LAMY blue as not water resistant, so use a waterproof ink such as Noodler’s Black for anything that has to survive a spill.
Which pens can you fill from a T52?
Any fountain pen with a converter or piston, according to Milligram. LAMY’s cartridge pens, such as the LAMY safari, fill from it with a LAMY Z28 converter; the piston-filling LAMY 2000 draws ink straight from the bottle.
At 0.8 ml per Z28 fill, one bottle gives about 62 fills. For a blue with a different character, compare Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue.
Where is LAMY T52 made?
In Germany. LAMY’s German ink guide says all LAMY inks are made at the LAMY factory in Heidelberg to an in-house recipe and checked against the EU’s REACH chemical rules; Milligram also lists the T52 as made in Germany.
The Heidelberg factory stayed when Mitsubishi Pencil bought LAMY in 2024; see why Mitsubishi Pencil bought LAMY.
LAMY’s German shop lists the T52 at €11.00 (about US$12) including VAT as of October 2026. In the US it falls in our $$ band, $5–20 per bottle.
Frequently asked questions
How much ink is in a LAMY T52 bottle?
50 ml (1.7 fl oz). LAMY's smaller T51 bottle holds 30 ml, and a T10 cartridge holds 1.25 ml, so one T52 equals 40 cartridges.
What is the paper roll on the LAMY T52 bottle for?
It is blotting paper. LAMY builds a roll into the plastic base so you can tear off a strip and wipe the nib after filling, and Goulet describes it the same way.
What colors does LAMY T52 come in?
LAMY's German shop lists nine: black, blue, blue-black, dark lilac, green, petrol, red, sepia and turquoise. LAMY says dark lilac and petrol are close but not exact copies of the original limited-edition colors.
Is LAMY blue ink erasable?
Yes. LAMY describes its blue as erasable (löschbar), meaning an ink eraser pen can remove it, and LAMY's US shop labels the blue bottle effaceable. Other colors are not sold as erasable.
Is LAMY T52 ink waterproof?
No. Goulet lists LAMY blue as not water resistant and not pigmented, so a wet page will run.
Can I use LAMY T52 ink in other brands of fountain pen?
Yes. Milligram says it suits any fountain pen with a piston filler or converter; LAMY pens fill from it with a Z28 converter, or the LAMY 2000's piston.
How big is the LAMY T52 bottle?
LAMY's German shop lists 74 x 61 x 74 mm (2.9 x 2.4 x 2.9 in) and 200 g. Goulet measures the bottle opening at 23.6 mm (0.93 in).
Where is LAMY ink made?
In Germany. LAMY says all its inks are made at its factory in Heidelberg to its own recipe and tested under the EU's REACH chemicals rules.
